Editorial Reviews:

In the tradition of Simon & Garfunkel's The Graduate and Cat Stevens' music for Harold and Maude, Sondre Lerche's Dan in Real Life finds the Norwegian sensation lending his coy, almost precious, touch to this movie's soundtrack. Several tracks are plucked from Lerche's back catalogue, including "Modern Nature" (2002's Faces Down), the Elvis Costello-penned "Human Hands" (2006's Duper Sessions), and "Airport Taxi Reception" (2007's Phantom Punch). These and the seven instrumental cue tracks form the matrix surrounding the four originals, among them a smarmy, beautiful duet with Regina Spektor, whose dulcet voice plays ideal foil to Lerche's own. "I'll Be OK" mimics the aw-shucks charisma of every character lead actor Steve Carell plays, offering inspired proof of director Peter Hedges' wisdom in handing the project to Lerche. Elsewhere, a string-heavy cover of Pete Townshend's seminal "Let My Love Open the Door" provides a memorable highlight. Hedges postulates in the liner notes that perhaps the film was made "so more of the world can hear [Lerche's] music," and certainly, this album provides an enticing vehicle for newcomers to his wavering vibrato, saccharine falsetto, and all too genteel songwriting, though existing Lerche fans may lament the relative shortage of new material here. --Jason Kirk

Summary: Great except for one thing
Comment: It was only after seeing the movie that I even became aware of the artist Sondre Lerche. For me the music was so much a part of the film (which I loved) that I had to do some on line research about the soundtrack. I agree with a previous reviewer that it was somewhat disappointing that the film version of "Let My Love Open The Door" was not a part of this but Lerche's version is okay. The lack of that song as it appeared in the film is the only reason I'm not giving this 5 stars. I listen to this CD almost daily and it always brings a smile to my face.

Summary: Good job, Sondre...
Comment: Well, well. That is a pretty piece of work. I really loved the songs on this lp, partly because I loved the movie itself so much. It is very rare that a movie and the music playing in it create a zone of comfort and everything just fits perfectly.
Here we have a very talented young songwriter, who simply did a wonderful job. The easyness of the songs plus the simplicity of the lyrics make it a treat to listen to that particular soundtrack.
Sondre Lerche uses lots of musical surprises and nice easy-to-remember melodies. It is something you can have playing in the back of your everyday life.

Summary: Love it! Love it! Love it!
Comment: I bought this cd after falling in love with the movie (obviously) and it is fantastic. I love the calming music and the poetic lyrics. I even play it for my four month old baby when he needs to relax- works like a charm.

Summary: Love the artist!
Comment: I enjoyed the music in the movie and really love this CD and the artist's style. Lots of acoustical guitar and violin along with great vocals make this relaxing and enjoyable.

Summary: really great feel good sound track
Comment: this is a great album. There was only one song on it that I didn't appreciate (and I don't think it was included in the movie). I think it says the word "damn" in it which I don't appreciate. Other than that Lerche is an amazing musician definately worth buying.
