I connect it to my DishNetwork receiver (VIP 622 DVR) so that I can transfer and store the recorded movies from the DVR. The setup was a snap and I got it working in no time. Both the SD and HD programs plays directly from the hard drive without any problem. Before buying this product I was a bit worried whether the hard drive will go into a sleep mode and will have difficulty activating it from the DishNetwork remote. But it works without any issues. There is probably a delay of about 3 seconds before it comes active if you are using it after a period of long inactivity. I have it to make back ups from a Mac and a PC and works great for both. It comes with some software that i have not used yet. I did my research before buying this drive, and from what I've learned WD and Seagate are amongst the best external HDD's in the market. The transfer speeds are ok, but tolerable.
